Foreign Object Removal

At Century ENT, we understand that infants or children may insert a foreign body into their ears or noses, causing a range of symptoms. An object lodged in the ear might hinder hearing, cause pain, or result in chronic discharge. Similarly, a nasal foreign body might lead to nasal blockage, snoring, a persistent runny nose, or nosebleeds, and may be uncomfortable.

In many cases, our expert ear, nose, and throat specialists, with the assistance of our staff at Century ENT, can extract the object right in our office. However, if the objects are deeply lodged, difficult to remove, or causing considerable distress to your child, we may suggest removing the object under general anesthesia in the operating room.

Once the foreign body has been safely removed, our specialists may advise the use of anti-inflammatories or antibiotics to keep the area clean and free of infection.

We frequently encounter objects such as food items, toys, buttons, crayons, paper, or batteries. It’s critical to promptly remove a battery due to the risk of it causing thermal damage to surrounding tissues if left inside the body for too long.

We recognize that such incidents are a part of children’s growth and exploration, and we’re here to help. Please contact Century ENT to schedule an appointment.
